Keep an eye on Kade Watson

About 25 minutes before the 3200 meters at the Gregory Invitational Monday, had the chance to say hello to Winner 7th grader Kade Watson.

He'd already run the mile and was getting ready for his specialty, the grueling 8-lap, 3200 meters.

"You have any goals for today," I asked.

"I wanna do 11:30," he said.

Dang if the young man wasn't on point as he ran an 11:32 to finish 2nd in the event and pick up eight big points for the Winner track team.

Asked the young Watson about Sidda Schuyler, a fellow 7th grader and Watson said she was going to run junior-high track and then likely move up.

"They asked us if we wanted to run middle-school or high school and I wanted to run high-school," Watson explained as to why he's running with the big boys.

Asked Mr. Watson what he placed at the state cross-country meet and without hesitation he fired back 33rd, which missed the podium by just a few seconds.

11:30 for a first meet and for someone that relishes a challenge and seems to be a student of long-distance running....NICE!

Not sure what it's going to take to make it to the state track meet, certainly under 11, maybe 10:30.....

Keep an eye on this guy, dang sure he won't not compete when it comes region time.
