Does Dell Rapids have a clue what's coming
Mar 2, 2017

By Rich Winter

Caught up to a little media segment from Big Sioux country last week in which Dell Rapids was asked about whom they could potentially face in the upcoming Sweet-16. Well, Dell Rapids coach, Jeff Dvorak in response to the question of whom they might play said something like, "Ummmmm, well maybe Little Wound or McLaughlin, we're not to sure."

Well, I'm not sure what Dell Rapids was thinking but having paid even the slightest bit of attention, Dell Rapids would have known Little Wound would be seeded way above where the Quarriers would be, and having looked at even the remotest of basketball scores, Dell Rapids would have known that McLaughlin had already been eliminated from post-season play by the time the interview on Big Sioux media was conducted.

Well, guessing the Lady Quarriers don't have much of a clue about Todd County. They've probably seen tape by now, and know the names of the players they'll be facing. But seeing someone on tape is one thing and feeling the heat that a team filled with terrific athletes and competitiors all over the court is another.

Dell Rapids is big: Not huge, but they do sport a 6-foot-1 post in junior, Sydney Stofferahn. While Stofferahn will likely find some room in the post, conversely, she's also going to have to find somene to guard....I like that matchup/

1 1 Ilienne Jaycox 5'0 G 11
2 2 Tiffanie Dorale 5'6 G 11
4 4 Aspen Hansen 5'11 F 9
12 12 Averi Pankonen 5'3 G 12
14 14 Ravyn Hoffman 5'6 G 10
20 20 Kaylee Hennen 5'4 G 11
22 22 Emma Paul 5'8 G/F 10
24 24 Regan Stone 5'6 G/F 11
30 30 Jenae Schoeberl 5'10 F 11
32 32 Sydney Stofferahn 6'1 C 11
34 34 Kali Graham 5'10 F/C 11
40 40 Arial Hoffman 5'7 G 11
42 42 Jayda Knuppe 5'9 C 10
    Sara VanRegenmorter     12

After the Little Wound loss from Little Wound, it looked like Todd County would drop into that No. 8 or No. 9 range of the seeding for the Sweet-16 and sure enough they did.

Dell Rapids, 17-4 won the Region 3 championship and while they had four losses early, those four losses came against some pretty good team.

Losses were to 18-3 McCook Central/Montrose first game of the year. Lost 52-48 vs. Hamlin (No. 2 in state), Lost to Hanson (Class B) 60-57 in Parkston and lost to a 19-2 Lennox team in OT, in Lennox.

Clearly this is a good ball club and a hot ball club.

Dell Rapids comes into Friday's showdown with Todd County riding a 13-game winning streak.

Todd County has won 15 of its last 17 games with the only blemishes coming @ McLaughlin and @ Little Wound.

Not really a common opponent but Little Wound lost to Hamlin in OT and Todd County has given Little Wound everything they wanted this year.

One thing for sure, Dell Rapids has not seen the kind of athletes that Bob Boyd's Lady Falcons have. Should be a great game Friday in Chamberlain as the Lady Falcons look to punch their ticket to the Class A state tournament next week in Brookings.
