A bunch of talented players return from the 2016 Miller Rustler volleyball team.

Winner vs. Miller - Early season showdown for Big Dakota BRAGGING Rights
Aug 24, 2017

By Rich Winter

I'm sure if the Panic Button had a minute to sit down and visit with Winner coach Jamie Keiser and Miller coach Linda DeBoer, both would say tonight's matchup between Miller and Winner is simply a great non-region matchup between two quality teams. While that intimation is probably correct, tonight's match webcast on winnerwarriorslive.com and I believe shown via liveticket.tv on a local television station in Miller is a biggie.

The Rustlers come into tonight's matchup at the Winner National Guard Armory ranked No. 4 in Class A volleyball, while Winner is unranked but looked solid in a three-set sweep of Bon Homme on Tuesday night.

Lotta folks remember at least one matchup between these teams last year where then freshman, Kayde Fernholz just ripped Winner. Lotta folks don't know or remember but these two teams hooked up in a great summer-league match with the Lady Warriors edging the Rustlers, 2-1.

OOOOOOHHHHHHH!!

Some big time talent in this matchup tonight. Fernholz, now a sophomore was a terror last season hitting over, around and through even double-teamed blocks.

But, this is no one woman show!

Miller has five seniors with a ton of experience and at all positions.

* Teanna Pawlowski DS/S gives this group some stablility and leadership and a defensive presence.

* Annie Keeter is a 5-foot-11 senior listed as a right-side hitter.

* Kassie Schaegers is the 5-foot-8 senior middle-hitter

* Karley Beckett is a 5-foot-9 outside hitter

* Kelby Tracy is a 5-foot-4 libero.

That is a lot of experience, a lot of height and a lot of versatility that DeBoer has to throw at Winner tonight.

Junior setter, Abby Breitling has a ton of hitters to feed and it will be interesting to see how she controls the match tonight.

Watching Winner get after it on Tuesday night I could not help but be impressed by 6-foot sophomore, Morgan Hammerback whose new and improved jump serve was on full display.

Hammerback dropped the HAMMER a bunch of times on Tuesday (See associated Video) and cannot wait to see the Fernholz vs. Hammerback hitting show get underway.

Winner has three 6-footers, Miller one, but three of four girls that are in that 5-foot-10 to 5-foot 11 range.

Clearly this is just a regular season game, but for two programs that are going to be looking at state tournament appearances later in the year, every power-point counts. In addition, the confidence factor...Grab a big early-season win and suddenly practice is more fun, and athletes can just concentrating on getting better instead of wondering if they belong on the big stage.

Game time is listet at 8 p.m. Central and again...that match can be seen at www.WinnerWarriorsLive.com

In addition, for all the folks up at Miller, Liveticket.tv will soon be broadcasting high-school games from your school...  www.MillerRustlers.Live
