Winner confirms No. 5 CLASS A ranking - Schuyler dominates TC Invite
Sep 27, 2017

By Rich Winter

A week ago Chamberlain's Allison Hough, running on her home course, beat Winner's Sidda Schuyler in a tough, competitive race. On Tuesday, the pair hooked up in another thriller at the Todd County Invitational.

This time though, Schuyler had the answer!

A big time effort from Schuyler as she ran an 18:54 to turn back another great effort from Hough, who clocked 19:16. The pair dominated the event with Jones County 7th grader, Jollie Dugan third at 20:23.

For those that pay attention to different times around the state. Not a lot of female Class A athletes in the state of South Dakota dip under the 19-minute mark. Beresford's Cait Savey has the fastest 5k time in the state, (18:23 I think) but Schuyler's effort is No. 2 in the Class A ranks.

It was a really solid effort from the Winner girls who backed up their No. 5 Class A ranking by placing four in the top-11 and five in the top - 16

1st - Schuyler - 18:54

5th - Jaclyn Laprath - 20:47

7th - Aryn Meiners - 21:47

11th - Meagan Blare - 22:32

16th - Melanie Brozik - 22:59

Some great results there from Jayd Schuyler's group yesterday.

Winner crushed a pretty good field.

1st - Winner 21 points

2nd - Chamberlain 45 points

3rd - Todd County 48 points

Watson coming on like a freight train:

I really am looking forward to following the exploits of Winner 8th-grader Kade Watson. Somewhere, in a few years, some of those really TUFF distance track records at Winner are going to be in trouble.

At yesterday's Todd County invite, Watson was second behind Crow Creek ninth-grader Trevin McBride.

McBride: 17:32

Watson: 17:38

McBride was in the top-25 at state a year ago so with under a month to go Watson is in prime position to do some damage (But only if his sister is yelling for him/at him).

Other results:

22nd - Dawson Phillips - 19:34

37th - Wyatt (headlock) Turnquist - 20:28

58th - Atlas Willuweit: 22:23

Two more meets on the schedule: SESD in Gregory and Ethan/Parkston and then regions and then state.

It's gonna be a great stretch run
