Gracie Weinheimer leads Sully Buttes to a 6th-place finish at state cross-country meet

Weinheimer's Last run a good one - The week in sports at Sully Buttes
Oct 24, 2017

By Rich Winter

Guessing we will see more of Sully Butte's Gracie Weinheimer during track season, but the Charger senior put an exclamation point on a terrific high school cross-country career with a 13th place finish at Saturday's Class B state cross-country meet in Rapid City.

Tough race with some really good competition in the B field this year as the race was eventually won by Newell's Delaney Leber

Class B results:

1 Leber, Delaney (12) Newell 19:52.33
2 Olsen, Josie (11) Deubrook Area 19:55.83

13 Weinheimer, Gracie (12) -  Sully Buttes 20:48.04
While Weinheimer led the CHARGE like she has during her career, her running mates also ran well at the state meet. All three of these young ladies are 7th-graders and I'm pretty sure Weinheimer's guidance this year sets those ladies up for a TUFF 4x800 this spring and some really good future cross-country results.
28 Frost, Dani (7) Sully Buttes 21:29.58
33 Chicoine, Calleigh (7) Sully Buttes 21:35.79
69  Wittler, Allyson (7) Sully Buttes 22:41.87
The Sully Buttes team come home in 6th place in one of the most competitive B team races in recent memory.
Team points: Newell 22, Ipswich 38, Deubrook 42, Gayville-Volin 49, KWL 51, Sully Buttes 53.
Boy, a couple places here and there and the Chargers might have slipped into the top-4...That's freaking AWESOME!!
Volleyball team clinches No. 2 seed in Region 2

Region 2Seed PointsW-L
Herreid/Selby Area 45.00 26-2
Sully Buttes 43.33 17-7
Potter County 41.81 17-10
Faulkton Area 41.76 15-10
Ipswich 40.24 10-15
Leola/Frederick Area 39.48 9-14
Highmore-Harrold 39.08 10-14
Eureka/Bowdle 38.96 11-12
Edmunds Central 38.92 11-13
Sunshine Bible Academy 37.00 5-16

Two straight losses for Tracy Scott's club, BUT, if you are looking at this from a competitive standpoint, Herried/Selby is 26-2 and having a monster year and the Chargers took a game from them: (14-25) (25-20) (13-25) (17-25)
And then a TUFF, 5-set loss to a red-hot Hitchcock/Tulare squad that went to five sets. (23-25) (25-12) (25-21) (12-25) (13-15)
With the Sweet-16 format, don't count out Sully Buttes, they always seem to find a way and Scott's club has played an incredibly difficult schedule that should have them ready for tournament play.
Sully Buttes football gets favorable seed:
After blanking Hitchcock-Tulare, 50-0 in the first round of the playoffs, and after the reseeding of the remaining eight teams, Mark Senftner's crew drew the No. 1 seed in the 9B quarters. They face Burke/South Central on Friday and if they win, wait for whomever emerges from the Colome @ Harding County HWT quarter.
