WWSSC pulls out a dramatic win over MVP

WWSSC outlasts MVP in CLASSIC SLUGFEST - VIDEO POST
Oct 20, 2017

By Rich Winter

Holy crud that was a good, hard-hitting football game last night between MVP and Woonsocket-Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central. On paper this one seemed like it should be all WWSSC as the Blackhawks pasted MVP, 27-6 on Sep. 1, in Mt. Vernon, BUT, you really gotta hand it to Brent Olsen's MVP team as the Titans won four of five down the stretch (only loss, close to Winner).

And so, as the video with this post suggests, there was WWSSC with a 4th-and-goal at the MVP 3-yard line, just seconds remaining in the game....WWSSC could have gone for a field goal and a tie (trailing 10-7 at the time), BUT Jason Kolousek knew his seniors, and trusted them. Pretty play as QB Trent Kingsbury rolled right, avoided a hard-rushing blitz and delivered a perfect ball to Weber as the Blackhawks advanced to the 11B quarters where they will soon become familiar with Ale Rama and Russell Leader Charge of a 7-2 Red Cloud squad.

"(Coach) called a great play, setting up a crossing route," Kingsbury said of the last play to the Mitchell Daily Republic. "Trey and I have made some plays the last couple of weeks and I trust him."

Really, what a tremendous game for both teams. Both squads moved up from 9AA to 11B and both just got better and better as the year progressed.

Some big numbers from last night:

* WWSSC - John Witte - 29 carries, 210 yards

* WWSSC - Jordan Hines nine tackles

* WWSSC - 4 Turnovers (Will need to clean that up)

* MVP - Jesse Hastings - 15-54 (Can't wait to see this one wrestle)

* MVP - Haden Haak 8-20, 89 yards

* MVP - Thomas Baker 10 tackles

Scoring summary

Second Quarter

WWSSC: John Witte 56 run (Witte kick)

Third quarter

MVP: Safety

Fourth quarter

MVP: Jesse Hastings 6 run (Hastings run)

WWSSC: Trey Weber 3 pass from Trent Kingsbury (kick fail)

Good luck to WWSSC as they move into the quarters of the 11B playoffs. For MVP, as Jesse Hastings posted on his Facebook wall today, ya'all better look out....

"Life is a one time thing. So no dwelling on the past and move forward. My favorite quote " You ME or nobody hits as hard as life but it's not about how hard you hit its about how hard you can get up and keep moving forward how much you can take and keep moving forward that's how winning is done"- Rocky Balboa thank you family, fans, coaches and my brothers for an amazing year. Can't wait till next year #TitanNation."
