Well, well, well the Winner/Colome baseball team jumped out to a terrific start Wednesday at the state amateur tournament as they defeated Dell Rapids, 8-2.

And, as you'll see by the video highlights assembled by BW, courtesy of Liveticket.tv, some big contributions coming drom Derek Graesser and Austin Richey.

Not long after the rain stopped falling at Cadwell Park, the Winner/Colome Pheasants started scoring runs.

"It started on defense, Derek (Graesser) threw strikes and we had nice plays to get off the field quickly," Winner/Colome manager Kevin Graesser told the Mitchell Daily Republic. "It carried over to the bats and any time you can jump on someone right away, it takes the pressure off."

Derek Graesser pitched a quick scoreless top of the first inning and the Pheasant offense gave him an early 2-0 lead after Austin Richey laced a two-out, two-run triple to the right field fence.

"All of our guys know what's at stake here, we know we have a good team and we didn't want to spoil that by not being ready to play," Richey said. "A lot of times with those rain delays, it's tough to get momentum going."

After Graesser pitched a scoreless first inning, Austin Richey smashed a triple to right that scored two runs with two outs.

Richey delivered another RBI in the third inning when his single scored Riley Calhoon. Interesting note here, Calhoon was immediately inserted into the lineup as Richey's courtesy runner and was thron out at third after a Jared Donahue single.

No matter, Winner advances to take on Vermillion in round two...
