With two outs in the bottom of the 7th and Dell Rapids leading 2-1, it looked like Vermillion was done. The fellas, that have been playing ball together since t-ball, were down to their final cuts and looked to be headed to the dreaded losers bracket.

A hot day in Winner, and after two hours of brilliant play between two quality baseball teams, Vermillion looked done.

But, if there is any guy you would want in that situation, it would be Brandon Mockler.

And Dells knew it!

After a gritty at bat, Mockler reached base by virtue of a walk.

Again, down to their last out, Nicholas Anderson hit a shot to the left side and strained to beat the throw to first.

He did, and when the ball went sailing off into right field, Mockler was half-way between 2nd and 3rd. Two outs, chance to tie the game, ain't no way this young man was slowing down and as he crossed the plate in a tumble, the Vermillion team and fans erupted behind him as Mockler fist-pumped his team into extra innings.

Mockler started the game with a line shot triple, eventually scoring to give his team a 1-0 lead.

As the game wore on, and after a nice start from Biilly Mount, Mockler had come on in relief to hold off a very good Dell Rapids team.

And so, as Mockler pitched on into the 9th, and as Vermillion came to bat, Anderson would come through again.

After Anderson reached on a bloop single, eventually landing on third with the bases loaded, Vermillion dialed up an attempt at stealing home.

Anderson broke for home and as the ball sailed high and inside, he slid under the tag then jumped into a throng of teammates as Vermillion advanced with a thrilling 3-2 win to reach tonight's championship round final vs. Spearfish.
