Three-headed MONSTER helps Colome crush Centerville
Aug 19, 2017

By Rich Winter

Have really been curious about the Colome team all summer. New coach in Ben Connot and a ton, I mean a TON of talent to replace from last year's 9B state title team. Figured the guys would be good but after watching a good share of that game with Centerville on colome cowboys live, it is pretty clear that this is a dang good football team.

Figured Beau Bertram and Jackson Kinzer would do their thing. Big backs, push the pile and be physical, but, wondered exactly who was going to be the chang-of-pace guy, the fella that breaks ankles and takes it to the house.

Welcome to the party Chase Dufek!

It did not take Dufek long to make his presence felt in Friday's game with Centerville as the 5-8 junior hit the hole, made a nifty and quick cut and then cut it to the outside and ran for a 25-yard TD for the first TD of the year for Colome.

All told, Dufek scorched the Tornadoes for 93 yards in an impressive outing.

But, as noted from the title of the blog, there were two other mouths to feed for what looks like a monstrous Colome rushing attack.

Jackson Kinzer - 89 yards and a TD, 1 reception for a 47 yard TD.

Beau Bertram - 83 yards and 2 TD's.

All told, Colome racked up 371 yards of offense for a spectacular opener.

Couple things with what I saw on tape today...

1. Junior Layton Thieman is running that offense to perfection.

2. Heck of an effort from the Colome offensive line last night.

When you have those two things in your wheel-house, good things are going to happen.

And yes, I'm foaming at the mouth about that running attack, but, let's not forget that Centerville had just 79 yards of total offense while committing three turnovers.

Defensively for the Cowboys, Nash Atteberry had five tackles and two sacks, while Jaikob Week had an interception.

Looking ahead to that schedule, Colome has two more winnable games and then a bye week before the schedule stiffens later in the year. That Oct. 6 matchup with Corsica-Stickney, in Colome...WOW!
