Got a really interesting email this morning from one of my cross-country buddies from up north who gave me two little tidbits about Class B runners Daniel Burkhalter and Kray Person. Don't know if everyone knows this but Burkhalter and Person qualified for the state cross-country meet for six consecutive seasons.

Burkhalter from Bison, capped an amazing career with places of 5th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, 1st and 1st

Person, was near the back of the pack his 7th-grade-year....110th place to be exact out of 114th. But, the young man kept with it and finished 2nd in both his junior and senior seasons.

Six years in a row...That's fantastic!

Wow, the BSC girls performed!!

Guess all week long I was kinda keeping track of how the BSC boys were going to do and as I looked over the girls results, dang if Laurie Kenzy's kids didn't step up on the biggest of stages. Going into the race, it looked very tight at the top with one of the deepest team races ever assembled at the state meet.

And the BSC girls got 7th - That's incredible...

Team points: Newell 22, Ipswich 38, Duebrook 42, Gayvill-Volin 49, Kimball-White/Lake 51, Sully Buttes 52, BSC 78

BSC reults:

30 Bolander, Brecken (7) Burke/South Central 21:32.77

38 Vaughn, Jolene (8) Burke/South Central 21:39.67
42 Person, Lacey (10) Burke/South Central 21:50.90
68 Zara, Anna (11) Burke/South Central 22:39.80
One of my favorite things about state cross-country is seeing teams and individuals that aren't scared to compete on the big stage. I didn't figure BSC girls to be in the running for a top-10, and yet, everyone on the team red-lined it to the finish....
BSC Boys Bring home Third place trophy
The Class B boys race was pegged as a competitive affair with people picking about four teams to have a shot at the title. In the end, Ipswich was just so strong and Freeman-Academy/Marion ran their butts off with BSC right in the mix for third place.
Team points: Ipswich 29, Freeman Academy/Marion 32, Burke/South Central 39, Warner 43, James Valley Christian 66
BSC results:
2 Person, Kray (12) Burke/South Central 16:50.14
18 Liewer, Jackson (10) Burke/South Central 17:55.92 (podium finish)
36 Mayer, Tyson (10) Burke/South Central 18:33.61
50 Vaughn, Washake (10) Burke/South Central 18:53.96
115 Williams, Jesse (11) Burke/South Central 21:30.93
What a tremendous cross-country career for Kray Person. Haven't heard where he's headed to college, BUT, someone is getting a guy that can run forever...10,000 could be his calling card. Nice foundation laid for the younger guys and you will notice there are three sophomores and a junior coming back next season.
Really looking forward to track this spring....BSC 4x800, Medley and really curious how Person will run when he takes on the Howard Wood 3200...
Well done BSC
