The Lower Brule football team that defeated Standing Rock, N.D. stands in front of the new scoreboard
Something BREWING up in Lower Brule Aug 26, 2017
By Rich Winter
After checking some scores today I learned that the Lower Brule Sioux improved to 2-0 on the season, and did so by blanking Standing Rock, North Dakota yesterday, 52-0.
Don't look now but the Sioux defeated Crazy Horse last week, 68-14 and have combined to ouscored their first two opponents....
120-14.
I like it...
One of the photos Sioux coach Zeke Prado shared with me was the picture of the team in front of the NEW scoreboard at the stadium.
WHAT?
Looking around on Mr. Prado's Facebook Page I see some pictures of the new floor that has been installed at Lower Brule High School.
Earlier this week, Lower Brule held a celebration to honor, 2016 state high-jump champion, Jayshawn Milton, who cleared 6-feet-7 to win the Class B state title last spring.
At any rate, this football team, huh?
Find it interesting that when I moved to South Dakota in 2005, one of my first memories of that fall of 2005 ish, was that of the Middletant brothers coming through about that time. Those Sioux teams were really tough and at the time, I was hoping they'd make a deep run in the football state tournament.
That same year, seems like I saw those Middletant brothers make a deep run that I belive ended in the semis at the Lakota Nation Basketball tournament.
See those brothers on Facebook quite a lot, doing some good things and talking a good talk.
At any rate, I'm suddenly pretty fired up about this Lower Brule football team. Two games, two big wins.
This week it is a winless Iroquois team, next week at Sunshine Bible.
Schedule will toughen in the second half but let's see how some of this community pride with a nice mix of athletes handles Bon Homme, Potter County, Hill City and Parkston down the stretch!
