Little Wound's Sayvon Mesteth unleashes MONSTER jump at state track meet

Sayvon MESTETH with MONSTER jump at state track meet
May 28, 2017

By Rich Winter

Alright, so years from now the Little Wound historians are going to look back and see an 8th place finish at the 2017 state track meet from recently graduated senior Sayvon Mesteth.

Eighth place does not begin to describe what this MAN from Little Wound just did.

Sayvon Mesteth jumped 21-7.5 inches, and yes, he finished 8th, BUT, he did it against the greatest Class A field of long-jumpers ever assembled.

Chamberlain's Tiegen Priebe won the event at 22-7

The top four jumpers reached 22-feet or better.

Two guys went 21-11

7th place was 21-9 from Landon Freeeman of Tri-Valley.

9th place was 21-feet.5 from Devon Garry of West Central.

Wasn't that long ago that 21 feet would have won that event.

Mesteth's leap would have won the Class B event by four inches.

Mesteth's leap would have finished 4th in AA.

Wow, good job Mr. Mesteth....And it's a good thing you put that Little Wound record (I think) out so far because that young apprentice is coming for ya.

Same event, Little Wound sophomore, Shadow Red Owl cranked out a 20-4.5 inch jump. Normally that kind of effort gets you finals but in the greatest Class A long jump competition ever held in South Dakota, Red Owl, ONLY finished 14th.

Great effort from the Little Wound coaches and athletes...Repping from out west in Region 7
