SHOWDOWN looming as BURKE tangles with Dakota Valley in epic 12-under state semi
Jul 15, 2017

By Rich Winter

It has been a trendous start at the state tournament for the Burke Royals 12-under softball team as the girls so far have defeated opponents 18-4 and 8-0 in the tournament.

In the opener, Burke Coach Billie Jo Indahl said this of her team's performance.

"We had crazy good bats hitting the ball every time and getting 18 runs and holding them to four," Indahl said.

Madelyn Cason pitched one inning, striking out all three batters she faced. Adison Indahl pitched two innings while recording five strikeouts.

In last night's quarterfinals, the Burke Royals bats were cracking and Cason was mowing people down, literally.

"Madelyn pitched a great game with 11 strike outs and our bats were strong again," Indahl said.

Burke defeated the Pierre Greyhounds.

This is where it gets interesting....In a late quarterfinal last night, Winner dropped a 12-0 decision to Dakota Valley. Winner pitcher Rylie Root had to be taken to the hospital with heat exhaustion...(Will try to get an update on her today at some point).

And wouldn't ya know it...Burke and Dakota Valley are headed for a showdown in the semis...Believe that action is today, perhaps Sunday.

At any rate, sounds like all the Burke teams are doing well...

Note - Winner's Jody Brozik (ace reporter) took the video of Cason throwing from the hill.

It really strikes you how tall she is when you see her live. Tall, lanky, all arms and legs and then she comes at you lefty...

Oh my!

Good luck to all the local teams as they continue their assault on Sioux Falls.
