Red Cloud junior Ale Rama has been giving opposing coaches nightmares

Red Cloud's Ale Rama makes Red Cloud a dangerous 11B floater
Sep 19, 2017

By Rich Winter

There was some big noise on top of the 11B football this week. Sioux Valley knocked off previously unbeaten Sioux Falls Christian and the Cossacks vaulted into the No. 1 slot in the 11B rankings.

Class 11B

1. Sioux Valley (24)                3-0      173     3

2. Bridgewater-Em/Ethan (10) 3-1     140     2

3. SF Christian (1)                 3-1       105      1

4. Winner                              3-1       67       4

5. McCook Cent./Montrose   4-0       47       5

Receiving votes: Canton 4, Stanley County 4, Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central 3.

* Sioux Valley knocked off previous No. 1, SFC, 21-14

* BEE responded nicely after losing to No. 11A Madison by thumping EPJ, 49-3

* Winner handled Valentine 24-12

* McCook-Central/Montrose blanked Wagner 54-0

One has to figure the 11B favorite comes from that group of top-five although Canton handled Beresford 37-6.

Not sure if anyone is paying attention to Red Cloud out west. Let's remember the Crusaders got to the quarters a year ago.

Early this season, All-state RB Russell Leader Charge went down with an arm injury...a hyper extended arm injury to be precise with an estimated time of recovery of 6-9 weeks.

Hmmm, injury happened on Aug. 18...Hmmmm?

At any rate, immediately after the injury to Leader Charge, the Crusaders got beat 41-18 by Pine Ridge. When I looked at the 11A power-points today, Pine Ridge is up their at No. 3.

And so, after that little blip in the radar vs. Pine Ridge on Aug. 25, Red Cloud has been coming along.

* Beat CEB 46-22

* Bye week

* Beat St. Francis 60-0.

Gotta tell ya I wish I could find stats on Red Cloud...I can't! But word on the street is that Red Cloud junior QB, Ale Rama has turned himself into quite a QB. Pretty elusive, sort of had to take over more of the offense without Leader Charge.

St. Francis coach Ryan Holy Eagle spoke highly of him during our interview this week.

Falcon coach Bob Kornely, on his way home from a JV game and fresh off a big win over Little Wound, was already talking about what a talented player Rama is.

Can't say as I've had the pleasure of seeing him play football in person, but, I've seen him play basketball and I'm assuming the athletic skills translate.

Cat-quick, shifty, tremendous speed and shake-a-bility!

Monster game this week as Todd County heads over to Red Cloud. The Falcons boast the states leading rusher in Mark Rogers, and the Crusaders boast a quarterback that has the attention of every coach on the schedule.

TC is No. 7 in the 11A power-points, they need this win.

Red Cloud needs a win to try to move up to No. 2 in their region from where they currently sit third.

Region 4Seed PointsW-L

Winner44.3332-1

Stanley County42.0003-1

Red Cloud41.3332-1

Bennett County41.2503-1

Crow Creek39.6671-2

Custer38.7501-3

Lead-Deadwood38.0001-3

Certianly looks like Red Cloud would be favored in their remaining three games.

6 Sep 29 2:00 p.m. MT Bennett County Red Cloud
7 Oct 06 6:00 p.m. MT Custer Custer
8 Oct 13 7:00 p.m. MT Little Wound Kyle

And then, nine weeks after the Leader Charge injury, he could be back, maybe sooner.

Leader Charge has 10.5 speed.

Ale Rama is quick, elusive and has that EXTRA gear.

Don't count out Red Cloud 11B you do not want to see this team in the playoffs.
