Carly Sprik had nine kills against Colome

Platte-Geddes volleyball starting to find its groove

It is always kind of interesting to check in on teams that made state tournament appearnaces the year before. Alright, so Platte-Geddes made that trip to the Class B state tournament a year ago, and with some heavy graduation losses, right out of the gate, Jill Kemnitz's crew dropped their first three matches.

But, you look at those losses, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket, Ethan, Freeman Academy/Marion (all good teams) and the losses are more a result of a youthful roster and a heck of a tough schedule.

But, August difficulties turn into September improvement, and if you look at the last five matches for P/G, Kemnitz's crew has won three-of-five.

* Aug 29 - Swept Corsica-Stickney

* Sep 5 - Swept by Wagner and a Red Raider squad this is 7-2

* Swept Bon Homme, in Tyndall

* Sep 11 - Played pretty well but lost against a 7-1 ACDC team.

* Sep 12 beat Colome in four sets.

Against Colome, Tori Weins carried the Black Panthers with 16 kills and four blocks. Carly Sprik and Candice Knudson both had nine kills, while Knudson had four aces. Courtney Neuman had 35 assists and eight digs.

Let's see how P/G does this weekend at the Tyndall tourney...Early next week its up against a TUFF Burke/South Central team.
