Newell's Delaney Leber looked impressive at Friday's Douglas Early Bird meet

Newell's Delaney Leber's Opener should send SHOCK-WAVES through Class B cross

One of the athletes that I am very fired up to keep my eyes and ears open for is Newell's Delaney Leber. This young lady rocked the Class B track meet last season and looked dang impressive in winning the 800 and 1600 meter events at the state B meet.

With Ipswich athlete Macy Heinz and last years champ, Laura Nelson of Gayville-Volin gone, the pecking order in the Class B ranks is in for a serious shake up.

While Leber finished 5th at the state meet a year ago, I think the track performance may have elevated her running confidence if Friday's Douglas Early-Bird Invitational is any indication, Leber looks ready to contend for Class B supremacy.

Leber finished 4th against a field comprised mostly of AA and A runners with a good early-season time of 20:14. Her time at the state meet a year ago...20:13.

Bryanna Kuhn of Rapid City Stevens won the race but there were some heavy hitters in the top-10 with Custer's Mallory Delmont, Hill City's Karlee Simmons and Tori Glazier of Custer that all finished in the top-10.

Newell looks like the might have a solid core group as the girls had other runners that placed 18th, 24th and 25th.

Douglas Early-Bird results:

1 Bryanna Kuhn 10 Rapid City Stevens High School 20:02.73

9 Hailey Uhre 8 Rapid City Stevens High School 20:58.41 4

10 Tayler Carlson 12 Custer High School 21:11.32
