The Philip Scotties take to the gridiron Thursday with their season opener against Kadoka

New coach, new look Philip football set to take flight
Aug 16, 2017

Panic Button note - Couple of guys from Philip have stepped up to the challenge of doing some guest blogging. Look forward to the increased coverage from the Philip Scotties.

By Kaylor Pinney and Conner Dekker,

Some wholesale changes to the Philip football season and they start right at the top. Philip native and former Chamberlain head football coach, Jerry Rhodes came home to take the Philip program to the next level.

A couple of big graduation losses including that of all-state RB, Dalton Kinsley due to graduation.

Players thoughts on coach Rhodes: "Coach Rhodes has been great he has helped the team transition to the new offense very smoothly and has great drills that the team enjoys," the guys said.

With Kinsley gone to graduation Philip fans and opponents might not see the 12-yards and a cloud of dust offered up by Kinsley, but when the Scotties take to the field Thursday for their season opener with Kadoka, in Philip, expect a different brand of football.

With the offensive line having to go from primarily run block to a lot more pass block, the first few games may see more pressure on the QB as the line gets familiar with it.

And while losing an All-state running back in Dalton Kinsley may be tough, the Scotties look for more of a power running game with Kaylor Pinney getting alot of carries.

The outside game looks solid with senior Conner Dekker and Junior Carson Hamill at the widout positions. Senior Lane Kroetch and junior Pedro Dennis are at the slot positions.

Pinney also posted a short blog on Dakota Grappler in regards to the recent Hunter Peterson injury...

Philip Junior and last year's state runner up at 132 lbs Hunter Peterson was in a serious farming accident yesterday wrecking a side by side and it landed on his legs and he was under it for about 4 maybe even 5 hours and it seriously damaged his legs, the doctors have told him he may not be able to walk again, Asking for prayers please!
