McLaughlin's Donna Taken Alive deserves some serious props
Feb 12, 2017

By Rich Winter

I don't know if it's the proximity of where they are located but somehow the McLaughlin girls always seem to go under the radar. They show up at Lakota Nation, do their thing (This year they lost to Todd County in the quarters), lost to Custer and then beat CEB for 7th place.

I think we all went mmmm, ok, they might be ok but they won't be as good as last year, or the year before, or the year before....

How we could all forget about coach Donna Taken Alive taking her girls to the B tournament two years ago and the A tournament last year is sorta mind-boggling, but here we are, heading towards the post-season and Taken Alive's girls are doing some serious pre post-season damage to other teams around the state.

Alright, so Mclaughlin lost to Todd County and Custer at Lakota Nation and beat CEB for 7th place.

The Mustangs lost at home to Little Wound, 45-55 on Dec. 28 and stood with a 4-3 record. Since that last Dec. 28 loss, Taken Alive's kids have been special.

Feb 10 TBA Winner McLaughlin 45-35 W 47 13-6
Feb 11 6:00 p.m. CT Crow Creek McLaughlin 62-53 W 47 9-8

They beat Pine Ridge by 33, beat a then 15-1 Todd County team, 81-69 on Feb. 6, beat Winner, 45-35 on Friday and turned around and beat Crow Creek by 11 on Saturday.

The only loss in an otherwise perfect 2017 was a 74-77 decision to a 16-3 United Trives school in Bismarck on Feb. 4.

At 13-4, Taken Alive's crew has Lemmon @ Lemmon, a tough rematch with Crow Creek @ Stephan and a snoozer with Chamberlain, at home to close the regular season.

The Mustangs are starting to creep toward 44 points in the power-point rankings....Win the last three and they will likely be a higher seed than their opponent in the upcoming sweet-16 madness.

They might not start the season on fire, but don't sleep on these girls or take them for granted....They are always ready to rumble in February.
