Junior Marcus Herber has stepped up after senior Peyton Loibl went down with an injury

Marcus Herber stepping up for Kadoka Kougars
Sep 12, 2017

By Rich Winter

The Kadoka Kougars got off to a great start this season with a big win over Philip, but then, disaster, as senior QB, Peyton Loibl went down with a knee injury.

Loibl, a senior was the director of traffic, the guy who had been playing the position since junior high, and suddenly Kadoka was left without a signal-caller.

So, Kadoka coach, Chad Eisenbraun went to the bench and dialed up junior, Marcus Herber. Off to a 2-0 start, the Kougars lost to Lyman, 16-12. But, after another week of reps in practice, Herber and the Kougars got it together to turn back New Underwood 14-12.

Herber 5-12 for 102 yards from the QB position, with a TD and an interception.

Host of Kougars stepped up in this one....

* Reese Sudbeck 76 yards (TD)

* Abe Herber 57 yards rushing

* Marcus Herber 17 yards

* Hudson Johnson (freshman) 7 yards

Receiving: Abe Herber 72 yards and a TD from Marcus.

Look at the defensive stats:

* Reese Sudbeck 12 tackles, 6 unassisted

* Abe Herber 14 tackles

* Seth Patterson 8 tackles

* Freshman Reed Ohrtman and Hudson Johnson combined for 18 tackles

* Jory Rodgers - 7 tackles

Sacks:

Seth Patterson and Abe Herber (1 apiece)

Inrterceptions:

* Marcus Herber (1)

This Hudson Johnson had a marvelous game and even scored the winning 2-point conversion in the 4th quarter.

Big bye week for the Kougars for everyone to get healthy and for that offense to start clicking a bit.

Next up, Wall, one of the better teams in the 9B ranks.

Senior Loibl, had to have surgery on that knee, he is expected to be back for at least some of baseketball season.

In kind of a related note, I noticed via my Facebook page that some folks from Kadoka helped put together and send a Philip blanket to injured Philip wrestler Hunter Peterson who is recovering with injured legs following a farm accident just prior to the season....Those are my kinda people...

Good job Kadoka!
