VERMILLION — A tale of two haves turned into an easy win for Brandon Valley Saturday night in the Class 11AAA title game.

After trading scores with Harrisburg for the first two quarters, both teams headed to the locker room tied at 14 before the Lynx’s took a commanding lead in the third quarter for a 35-14 win.

“We just didn’t block that well up front,” Brandon Valley coach Chad Garrow said of the first half. “We didn’t execute that well up front in the first half and then we went into the (locker room) and just did what we do and get better.”

Brandon Valley (9-1) opened the third quarter when Joe Kolbeck added his second rushing touchdown of the night — a 67-yard score that gave the Lynx a 20-14 lead with 7:38 left to play in the quarter.

Kolbeck ended the night with 143 rushing yards on 11 carries. The senior added 45 yards through the air — completing 4 of 7 passes. Fellow senior Tate Johnson led the Lynx with 225 yards on 27 carries and two touchdowns including a 45-yard run with 5:00 to play in the third quarter.

“They have been to three titles and won two of them,” Garrow said of his seniors. “They have done a heck of a lot and done a tremendous job in getting ready for this season, which wasn’t an easy season to begin with everything going on.”

Quarterback Jacob Knuth led Harrisburg (7-4); the junior threw for 301 yards — completing 29 of 42 attempts. He added 19 rushing yards on 9 carries as the Lynx limited the Tigers to just 70 total rushing yards.
