Ethan/Parkston junior Derek Storm with about 200 meters left in his 800 carry for the Ethan/Parkston medley team.

Look out for Ethan/Parkston medley team in 2018
May 31, 2017

By Rich Winter

Earlier this track season I ran into Hill City coach Joe Noyes and we talked about his medley relay team a bit. In 2016 the Hill City guys just missed making the finals of a tough event. Ninth in the preliminaries in 2016 the Hill City guys worked their butts off all season.

And it showed...

At this weekend's South Dakota state track meet the Rangers cruised to a second place finish in the event, trailing only the Caleb DeWeerd Sioux Falls Christian led medley team all the way to 2nd place.

I could see that happening to a group from Ethan/Parkston that ran their butts off in the preliminaries in Tea Area on Friday, only to miss qualifying for the finals by .08.

Nice strong anchor on that medley squad from Derek Storm had the guys about a step from making the finals.

Well, 2018, get ready the boys from Ethan/Parkston will be back.

An all junior group ran on that squad this season...

Tanner Hines, Tulsa Janis, Abiah Plastow and Derek Storm will all be back next season....likely with that .08 taste in their mouth as they hit summer workouts and such.

I like it, one to watch for in 2018

How about the exploits of Amanda Miller:

Shot put - 2nd - 40-10.5

The Menken girl from Custer hit 44-9, the best throw, regardless of class at the state meet.

41-feet is so out there, great job to this young lady who has worked her butt off to reach those lengths.
