Vermillion's Trey Hage was a state wrestling runner up and is a heavy hitter for the Vermillion Legion team

Legion Baseball, one to watch - Vermillion's Trey Hage

Always love to see athletes competing in multiple sports. Like it even more when I see athletes competing in multiple sports at high levels.

As the state of South Dakota turns its attention to the State B Legion Tournament that starts in Winner at Leahy Bowl on Friday, one of those two-sport athletes is worth keeping an eye on.

Vermillion dropped an early game to region foe Dakota Valley and had to fight their way back through the losers bracket. After beating Lennox 11-1 in an elimination game, Vermillion laced em up for another round with Dakota Valley.

In what turned out to be a 20-1 route, Vermillion 2nd baseman, Trey Hage broke the game open with a 3-run blast to stretch the lead to 11-1.

Vermillion would go on to defeat Dakota Valley in back to back games to reach the state tournament. Vermillion takes on Groton in game one of the tournament Friday at 10 a.m.

You might remember Hage from the Class A state wrestling tournament. Undefeated until the state championship match, Hage lost 7-3 to Spearfish's Trey Waterson who was undefeated this season.
