An impressive season opening for the Winner Lady Warriors

Keiser's Lady Warriors look to be in mid-season form with rout of Bon Homme
Aug 23, 2017

By Rich Winter

While the Class A volleyball rankings came out yesterday with the Lady Warriors of Winner not getting a sniff in the rankings or in the those receiving votes category, an impressive 25-12, 25-18 and 25-19 win over Bon Homme might turn a few heads.

Guessing coach Jamie Keiser probably likes that her girls are flying under the radar, but a deep, disciplined and talented crew from Winner looks like they have the tools to compete at a high level in the Class A ranks.

Bon Homme, coming off a 4th place finish at the Class A volleyball tournament lost a lot of firepower from last season but still anytime you take down a team that has state tournament experience, things are rolling in the right direction.

Watched most of the match on Winnerwarriorslive.com last night, and you can watch that broadcast in its entirity today, but Winner came out on fire in that first set (Always like to see a team come out with that kind of mentality). Morgan Hammerbeck, the 6-foot sophomore showed some all-court game, and especially looked terrific sporting a new jump serve that at one point in the first game, reeled off like 12-straight points.

The Marts sisters can hit!

Gracie Littau looks like she's taken command of the setter position

And Alexis Richey just makes volleyball plays.

For the first game of the season, Keiser's girls looked like a well-oiled machine. That said, and I never like to sound critical, but there were some occasions last night where the initial pass to get the ball in play wasn't right on the money. Littau had to go get the ball on occasion, but she showed some nice diversity with the short-sets to the middle and the long, cross-court sets to the outside.

Didn't see any back-row attacks, but volleyball is such a fundamental game and the hitting part of volleyball takes a minute to get all the timing and kinks ironed out.

Again, for the first match of the year, a solid, solid performance from the Lady Warriors.

Like the schedule here for Winner, in particular that Keiser's group gets in five matched before Labor Day.

One of those matches, is against Miller Thursday as the No. 4 Rustlers come to the National Guard Armory to throw down.

Now that will be worth watching...That match will be webcast on winnerwarriorslive.com
