If you host it, the Scotties will come...Philip Area heads east for massive weekend of wrestling
Jan 18, 2017

By Rich Winter

Toyed with the idea of driving to Philip, from Mission, last Saturday to check out the Philip Invitational. Alas, that didn't happen, but with the Philip Scotties headed to Winner on Friday & Saturday, the Panic Button is chomping at the bit to see the Scotties live for the first time since 1985. (The Todd Sandal years)

While I didn't get the hometown Scottie experience I would have liked, wait long enough and the Scotties are likely to show up somewhere in the vicinity...Any vicinity with a mat.

Check out Philip's schedule this season: Kimball, Rapid City, Salem, Wolsey, Miller/Highmore, home, Winner, Wagner, Hill City....Ya start thinking about why Philip is so good year in and year out and maybe it's because by the end of the year, the Scotties have seen everyone and experienced anything they might encounter at the state tournament.

If they aren't traveling, they're hosting the best of the best as evidenced by a close home win over Beresford-Alcester/Hudson at the aforementioned, Philip Invite last Saturday.

It is with great and eager anticipation that I'm buckling up for a busy weekend of wrestling. On Friday, the Badlands-Brawlers come to Winner for a triangular with Winner and Kimball-White/Lake-Platte/Geddes.

K-WL-PG was ranked No. 6 in the latest South Dakota Class B rankings.

Winner, the No. 3 rated Class B team just got done knocking off No. 1 rated Nebraska school, Valentine on Tuesday.

And Philip comes into these duels as the No. 2 rated team in South Dakota. All three of those duels should be epic...Winner vs. Philip...Uhhhhhh, pick em but Winner will have to do well in the low, low weights to have a chance.

And of course, the Scotties will be sticking around Saturday for a very good Winner Invitational.

Best of the best...You bet...See ya there Philip!
