Hoftiezer is Panic Button's Breakthrough Performer of the WEEK
May 14, 2017

By Rich Winter

We're coming down the stretch of a really nice career for Stanley County senior, Damon Hoftiezer, and the young man is having some break-through performances down the stretch.

At the Howard Wood Dakota Relays, Hoftiezer broke the 50-foot barrier in the shot put on his way to an 8th place finish. For those of you that aren't in the know, and for those of you that are, 50-feet is one of those magical barriers in high-school track & field. A lot of guys can throw in the 40's, but if you can throw in the 50's, well, your a cut above.

This week, seems like Hoftiezer was out west and won the shot-put, BUT, had a monstrous effort in the discus, breaking free from the shackles of the 155-foot barrier on his way to a winning throw of 167-feet.

What's big about that is earlier in the week, Custer thrower, Reed Ashmore broke the 160-foot barrier with a then Class A leading, 162-5.

Hoftiezer answered!
