Gregory's Voigt has SPECIAL effort at Augie Twilight meet
Sep 2, 2017

By Rich Winter

I hope people can appreciate just how well Gregory senior Aaron Voigt did at last night's Augustana Twilight Meet.

While the results came back that he placed 13th, he did so much more than that.

Alright, so the Augie meet is one of those biggies where the who's who of cross-country in South Dakota show up and if you place in the top-20 you are getting it done at a high level.

Alright, here is what I mean.

1st - Derick Peters - West Central - 15:08 - Young man is the defending Class A champ in cross-country and probably the best distance runner in South Dakota at the moment.

3rd - Daniel Burkhalter - Bison - 15:48.69 - Last year's Class B state champion and one of the best Class B distance runners in the history of South Dakota.

5th - Joe Rush - Custer - 15:59 - Last year's Class A third place guy.

13th - Aaron Voigt - Gregory - 16:33.62 - Other than Burkhalter, Voight was the 2nd fastest Class B guy in the field.

15th - Ty Trainor - St. Thomas More - 16:39 - Last year's Class A state runner-up.

Really liking how Voigt is looking in the early part of this, his senior season. First place in Winner and Gregory and now 13th against a quality field amidst chaos of over 200 runners in an event, that bodes well for bigger meets later in the season.
