Gorillas cap perfect week with win over good Scotland squad - Gregory sports recap
Feb 11, 2017

By Rich Winter

While the Gregory Gorillas have won six of their last eight games, none of the wins came against teams with winning records.

Until Friday!

On Friday, the Gorillas took the show on the road to face a 12-3 Scotland squad. Jayd VanDerWerff and Robert Vomacka combined for 33 ponts and 18 rebounds as the Gorillas capped their best week of the season with a 51-34 win over the Highlanders.

After a loss to Lyman to end Januray and a loss to Parkston to start February, it's been smooth sailing for Jeff Determan's crew.

Feb. 4 - Defeated Elkton-Lake Benton (in Madison), 60-43.

Feb. 6 - Defeated District rival, Avon, 70-57

Feb. 10 - Defeated Scotlan, who had been ranked about a week ago (at 12-1), 51-34.

Feb. 11 - Play Jones County at home...A win today gets the Gorillas to 8-9...Good stuff for a team that started the year 0-5.

Lady Gorillas fall to Scotland:

At 2-15, prospects of any kind of deep run into the Class B tournament are about slim and none...BUT, ya gotta like that the Lady Gorillas are still playing hard.

Kevin Myrmoe's squad traveled to Scotland Friday and ran into a red-hot Taylor Bietz who scored 20 points to give Scotland a 57-46 win over Gregory.

Allison Ekroth paced the Gorillas with 13 points and seven rebounds. Sydney Svatos and Emma Schweigert both scored nine points apiece. Jaycee Bartling had four steals.

Scotland (6-11) will host Wagner today. Gregory (2-15) will play Tripp-Delmont/Armour today in Armour.
