Eagle Butte's Kessler and Hunt dominate Great Plains Indian Rodeo Association opener

Alright rodeo, let's get serious.

Hard for me to find consistent rodeo results, unless they drop into my lap, but, sometimes that happens.

Received a press-release from Troy Heinert indicating that the Great Plains Rodeo Association season is underway with the first big rodeo going down last weekend in Ft. Pierre.

The road to the Indian National Finals Rodeo, in November, is a long one, but, a bunch of South Dakota cowboys and cowgirls got off to great starts last weekend.

Couldn't help but scroll through the list of winners and noticed a definate influece from the Cheyenne River area.

Event winners:

Bull riding: Chris Kessler - Eagle Butte - 67 points

Ladies breakaway - Jakki Hunt - Eagle Butte - 2.6 seconds (holy)

Ladies barrell racing - Jakki Hunt - Eagle Butte - 17.159 seconds

How about Hunt winning two titles at the first sanctioned meet of the year.

Other winners:

Bareback - Joe Wilson - Martin 69 points

Saddle Bronc - Kaden Deal - Red Scoffold SD - 72 points

Tie Down roping: Clint Henry - Nixon, NV - 11 sec

Steer wrestling: TJ Heinert - Mission - 3.76 (holy)

Team roping: Michael Not Afraid/Jesse Chase - 5.38 sec

Sr. Breakaway: Lynn Williams, Faith - 2.56 seconds

Sr. Team roping: Bart Niess/Galen Means - 8.25 seconds

Trying to get a little more dialed into rodeo, all levels, all ages, all places...If someone has a feature story idea, picture or even results, send me an email at richwinter85@gmail.com
