Cub Nation, South Dakota anxiously await the return of Ella Byers
Aug 31, 2017

By Riggs Priebe,

For a lot of South Dakota cross-country fans, last weekend's Mitchell Invitational was scheduled to be a meet to get a look at one of the Class A contenders, Chamberlain's Ella Byers.

To the disappointment of the fans, the 2015 state champ did not compete.
So this raises many questions like how bad is she hurt? How long will she sit out?
Byers said she is battling 'extreme fatigue' when she's running.
I talked with her and she will take some time off, althoguh she doesn't know when she will be better.
The last time the track & field/cross-country world got a look at Byers was at the state track meet last spring, where she placed 5th in the 1600, 8th in the 3200 and 3rd in the 800 (2:15)
"I really want to get back out there and compete after a disappointing end to last year," Byers aaid.
Byers hopes to get back out there with her teammates as soon as possible.
"It's hard to have to sit on the sidelines, but sometimes a full recovery is more important in the long run."

Even though Byers did not run at Mitchell, it was still a banner day for the Cubs cross-country program.

* Chamberlain's Ally Hough won the junior-varsity 4k girls race

* Chamberlain's Decian Tveit won the middle-school boys race.
