Can the Thorpes take a bite out of a solid Red Cloud squad
Aug 25, 2017

By Rich Winter

Big game out west this afternoon as the Pine Ridge Thorpes roll into Red Cloud to take on a Duane Big Crow coached Red Cloud squad that knocked off Lead-Deadwood last week, 46-32.

This is always a big game and goes down this afternoon starting at 2:00 p.m. in Red Cloud.

The Crusaders, fresh off a trip to the 11B quarterfinals look like they might be one of the sleeper teams in 11B. Some terrific athletes on the Red Cloud squad led by QB Ale Rama and all-everything RB, Russell Leader Charge.

Seeing a lot of big, TUFF, physical kids on that offensive line with guys like Jevon Hacker, Jeff Pourier and Koby Morrisette anchoring the offensive and defensive lines.

This will be the opener for Pine Ridge and while coach Sam Bravo's team might be a little young in a few areas, there are some skill guys out there that could make things interesting.

Senior, Halen Bad Bear returns after gaining some experience at the QB positions. Good athlete, more physical than people might think, and that year of experience should help the Thorpes move the ball.

Cecil Apple at FB and RB Douglas Brown are both seniors and should see plenty of carries although there are some talented up and coming backs.

Like some of the size and physicality I'm seeing from a few of these players, with a lot of upper-classmen paving the way for the skill guys.

Seniors Jaylen Peters, Richard Smallwood and Kalup Morrison give the Thorpes some size up front on both sides of the ball. Senior Thomas Red Hawk and sophomore Dante Bravo 5-11, 285 lbs should also contribute to the Thorpes running game.

Junior Corey Brown looks to be a slimmed down version of his sophmoric self, checking in at 6-2 and 180 lbs. Some nice work this summer has Brown throwing down on the basketball court, as seen by Facebook videos.

Should be a good one and am anxious to see how the Thorpes do against a very good Red Cloud squad.
