Gregory girls starting to put together some quality relays.

Can the Lady Gorillas make some NOIZE in the post-season
May 14, 2017

By Rich Winter

As prep track and field amps up this week with the region field and track meets going down across South Dakota, one of the teams I'm keeping my eyes on are the Lady Gorillas from Gregory.

While Gregory has their medley relay qualified for state, ranked No. 17, the Gorillas will be looking to do some damage in other relays and perhaps in the long jump.

Freshman, Jaycee Bartling has pre-qualified for the long jump at 15-5 but she continues to get better and is starting to see some results from her hard work.

At last Tuesday's SESD meet at MVP, Bartling out-dueled a good field to claim the long jump title.

Event 17 Girls Long Jump
Name Yr School Finals
Finals

4 Mesman, Sierra 12 Bon Homme 14-10.75 4
5 Walz, Camie 11 Mt. Vernon/P 14-10.50 2

In the same meet, the Medley relay team punched their ticket to state with a 2nd place effort.

Finals
1 Platte-Geddes 4:31.12 10
2 Gregory 4:35.52

While Gregory fields enough athletes to fill every relay, the mile relay looks like they are starting to put it together as well as they finished 3rd in a pretty salty field at MVP.

Good luck at the Region meet, be awesome to see a few unexpected Gregory girls get a chance to advance to the dance.
