Can Duane Big Crows boys do DAMAGE in the 11B ranks
Aug 8, 2017

By Rich Winter

Early last season the Red Cloud football team was struggling. A couple of early losses and it looked like it was going to be a long year for the SADERS...

But, Duane Big Crow rallied the troops, the line improved and Red Cloud ran the table the rest of the way, eventually reaching the 11B quarters where I believe they were ousted by Aberdeen Roncalli.

While it has been almost a year, it seems like Red Cloud was down to like 13 guys at one point a season ago and Big Crow had some really solid coaching, including great time management down the stretch to really put this team in position to do well.

Can't remember the score but last season Red Cloud absolutely THUMPED a good Bennett County squad. I was expecting that game to be close and probably go to Bennett County but Red Cloud had it rolling.

Like that this team got to the quarters last year and can build off a very successful season. The hope from afar as I haven't seen this roster is that a few more kids go out for the sport and that some of them have spent some time in the weight room.

One guy I don't EVER have to worry about missing the weight-room is senior Russell Leader Charge. The Young man blistered the grid-iron a year ago and was a TD machine from his RB position. A threat to score in all phases of the game, look for Leader Charge to challenge the 2000 yard rushing barrier this season should he stay healthy.

Leader Charge was named Honorable Metion all-state a season ago.

Another guy that made the 11B honorable metion team was Jevon Hacker. If memory serves he was only a sophomore last season and if memory serves he was a terror on defense, and of course will play both sides of the ball for Red Cloud.

Now, I don't know the Red Cloud football program all that well, but there are some quick and terrific athletes over there. If Ale Rama is playing football he's going to be a handful.

Keep an eye on the QB position over there in Red Cloud, could be an intersting transfer in the mix???

Looks like a pretty favorable schedule for the Crusaders...

0 Aug 18 6:00 p.m. MT Lead-Deadwood Lead-Deadwood
1 Aug 25 2:00 p.m. MT Pine Ridge Pine Ridge
2 Sep 01 2:00 p.m. MT Cheyenne-Eagle Butte Red Cloud
3     OPEN     - - -
4 Sep 15 6:00 p.m. MT St. Francis Indian St. Francis
5 Sep 22 2:00 p.m. MT Todd County Red Cloud
6 Sep 29 2:00 p.m. MT Bennett County Red Cloud
7 Oct 06 6:00 p.m. MT Custer Custer
8 Oct 13 7:00 p.m. MT Little Wound Kyle

If Red Cloud can get it going early they should be undefeated heading into that Sep. 29 game with Bennett County. Custer doesn't have a great football tradition but they are always dangerous.

Could be a banner year over there in Red Cloud. Seems like the team won its first playoff game in school history. With the fire-power this group has, a deeper run I'm sure is on the minds of the players as they put on pads for the first time this week.
