Can Custer's Tori Glazer keep up with star-studded field in Howard Wood special 800
May 3, 2017

As the gun goes off Friday night for the Special Event 800 meters, Taryn Ceglowski has the distinct honor of having the fastest qualifying time in the invite only race, and, she will be the first Colorado prep athlete in history to compete in one of the Howard Wood specials.

If you want to talk about a loaded field, check out the list of states and countries that will be particpating in the event.

The Centennial State will be the seventh to be represented in the Dakota Relays’ special event, joining Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming, as well as Canada and Germany.

Germany, dang, brings back memories of former Sioux City athlete, and now Olympian, Shelby Houlihan dueling North Dakota and University of Oregon NCAA champion Laura Roesler.

That's big Howard Wood is baby!

At the forefront is Ceglowski. A University of Sioux Falls commit, her 2:15.59 is tops in the field, and second-best in the state of Colorado.

Ceglowski’s top challenge could come from Edina (Minn.) junior Emily Kompelien, who owns a season-best 2:17.68 in the 800. Last season, she posted a 2:11 split for the record-setting 4x800 relay team.

Couple of South Dakota girls in the field as Custer's Tori Glazer, four-time defending Class A champ (2:14 a year ago) and SF Lincoln's Jasmyn Cooper (Two-time defending AA champ) in the field.

Vermillion senior, Maddie Lavin also figures to be a player in the race!
